SHROPSHIRE
PREMIER BOWLING LEAGUE
Sponsored
by
FLOWFIT
In
2013 a sub committee consisting of Michael Beer, Nick Davies, Tony Rhodes, Dale
Rudrum and myself held two meetings to review the current format of the
Shropshire Premier League and provide suggestions for the Management Committee
to review to further improve the standard of bowling within Shropshire.
This
document has been produced as a means for “discussion” for all clubs.

Proposed Two
Divisions of 8 Teams (7H, 7A, 7N)
GAMES AND SCORING
All teams to play each other on a Home. Away and Neutral game basis. The neutral game to take place on a green from the other league that neither team have played on that season.
All games will be 21 up and one point will be awarded for each individual winner. In addition each team will be awarded two points for a home win, four points for an away win, one point for an aggregate home draw, two points for an aggregate away draw and no points for a defeat. In a neutral green match, each team will be awarded two points for a win and one point for an aggregate draw.
In a scenario where the League commenced in 2013, the following pattern of matches would have taken place:-
Premier Division would have comprised of Bowring, Castlefields, Chester Road, Meole Brace, Newport, Sir J Bayley, St Georges &Wrockwardine Wood.
Second Division would have comprised of Archibald Worthington, Burway, Bylet,
Hadley USC, Ifton, Wem USC, New Team 1 & New Team 2.
The league format would have 21 matches in total. With a current maximum of four matches in the Alan Mayhew Trophy, a new “Alan Mayhew Trophy” competition would be League based with four teams in four leagues. This would give a minimum of three extra matches or six if it was changed to 12 home/ 12 away! The “League” winners would compete in a semi final/final and the “Runners Up” would complete in a consolation semi final/final.
Using the results from the fixtures
involving these teams from the 2013 results, the League table with two points
for a home win, four points for an away win, one point for an aggregate home
draw, two points for an aggregate away draw for the 14 matches played is as
follows:-

The seven “neutral” match results would then be added to make a final league table of 21 matches.
Proposed
Two Divisions of 8 Teams (7H, 7A, 7N)
There are 13 Fridays I can use to have seven home matches and six of the neutral matches from the second division. There is a grid available for Eight teams to play each other on seven greens from the other division, but there would undoubtedly be clashes with the non premier teams from other leagues using the green on a Friday to fit in with the fixtures. This would result in these fixtures being moved to another night, but could attract large crowds if planned correctly.
An
example of a set of “neutral” fixtures is given below:-

Introduction of “Super Four” Non Friday fixtures
The
review highlighted on having a “match of the week”, played on a “non
Friday”. In previous years, due to inclement weather, a number of fixtures
have been played on a Sunday evening and had been well attended.
In
July, there are no County Cup mid-week fixtures and it is suggested that one of
the seven Friday “July” fixtures is brought forward to the Wednesday night.
These would be selected at the March meeting.
Using
the 2013 fixtures as an example, the July fixtures were as follows and the
selected match is highlighted in “bold”

Changes
in point scoring for individual wins
The current
rule for our points scoring system is as follows:-
GAMES AND
SCORING
All games will
be 21 up and one point will be awarded for each individual winner. In addition
each team will be awarded two points for a win one point for an aggregate draw
and no points for a defeat.
It is suggested
that this is changed to :-
All games will
be 21 up and one point will be awarded for each individual HOME winner, two
points for an away winner . In
addition each team will be awarded two points for a HOME win, three points for
an AWAY win, one point for an aggregate HOME draw, two points for an AWAY draw
and no points for a defeat.
This would mean
that an away team having all 12 winners would gain 27 points instead of the
current 14 available.
Using the results from the fixtures
involving these teams from 2013, the league table for the proposed points system
where one point is awarded for each individual HOME winner, two
points for an away winner and
where each team will be awarded two points for a HOME win, three points for an
AWAY win, one point for an aggregate HOME draw, two points for an AWAY draw and
no points for a defeat would be as follows:-

New
Four a side competition
It is suggested that a new “4 a side” competition is introduced.
These competitions are very popular and competitive.
Each club could enter as many teams as they would like and pay an entry fee per team.
This could be played during the season and used to celebrate our “21” years next season.
